Mika made it into The University of Utah Singers!

As many of you know Mika started at the University of Utah this week.  She was a little scared and did really just want to go back to High School but that is not the way life goes. And you know what...... She is accurately liking College :o) She has met some new people already and she is liking her teachers.

That said she has had to go to many auditions to make it into the choirs and get a good voice teacher. And she has done the auditions very well. For her voice teacher she got Julie Wright Costa, Voice area Chair and the "Boss" of the Voice department at the School of Music. Mika took one lesson before her scholarship audition with her so Julie already LOVES Mika! AND Mika loves Julie!! Great match!

Maybe this is why Mika got the Voice Teacher of her choice ;o)
Like I said Mika also auditioned to get into a choir and she made it into The University of Utah Singers, it is the best choir on campus. At that audition Dr. Bradford (conductor of the choir) was chocked that Mika had got a $2000 Scholarship from the Voice Department. He told us that it was unheard of to get that high of a scholarship in Voice. So Mika should be very pleased that she did that well. He did tell her that she has lots of talent and a beautiful clear voice! Mika is one of two Freshmen girls (first year at the university) that made it into the Singers. And she is only the 3rd person that made it in coming straight from Woods Cross High School, meaning she is a Freshman in College :o)

Here is a little about the choir:

The University of Utah Singers, an ensemble of approximately 45 voices organized in 2003, has won international acclaim through convention performances, concert tours, and participation in prestigious festivals and competitions.  In 2006, they won the European Grand Prix International Choir Competition in Tolosa, Spain, in which they competed as a result of winning the Grand Prize at the 2005 Florilège Vocal de Tours International Choir Competition in Tours, France.  Most recently, they toured to France by invitation to perform at three different festivals, and were featured on French national television at the Nancy International Choir Festival.

In addition to their international appearances, the Singers have been featured locally at state events, such as at the 2004 opening session of the Utah State Senate.  They also preform regularly with other Utah-based groups, including the 23rd Army Band, the Salt Lake Choral Artists, Brigham Young University Singers and so fort. They have performed in the Salt Lake Tabernacle, the Assembly Hall on Temple Square, and the Cathedral of the Madeleine, and at division and national conventions for the American Choral Directors Association and the Music Educators National Conference.

The choir performs at Libby Gardner Concert Hall several times a year and much of their repertoire has been recorded on CD, including the double CD set If Music be the Food of Love, which features their 2006 and 2007 tour programs.  They have also released a CD of American folk music, titled Home on the Range, two Christmas albums, and several other CDs with works ranging from the Renaissance to Broadway.

Or maybe this is why she got into The University of Utah Singers and got a HIGH Voice Scholarship.  She knows what she wants and goes for it when it has anything to do with Music.

We love you Mika. You will succeed in anything that you put you mind to. Go for it girl :o)!!
