Millika with WXHS Cross Country Teams at Fisher Park by Clearflied High School

Millika ran an easy race today with WXHS Cross Country Teams at Fisher Park by Clearflied High School. The course was almost all FLAT and it was 2.75 miles (4.40 KM). There were 3 schools and 37 girls. The course was 3 rounds of 0.91 miles a piece so a little boring compared to the other courses Millika has run before!

Today Millika was not told to hold back but to just go run her race. So she did just that. She ran the 2.75 miles in 17 min 42 sec, a new PR (personal record) for her. It seems like she is breaking her PR almost at every race these days.

This is in the beginning of the first round Millika is keeping a good pace but not too fast yet!

Here is Millika on round 2. She is starting to pull away for the rest of the group.

Here she is coming up to the finish line. There are NO other runners in sight after her!

This is her in one of her famous sprints. Look at those leg muscles. WOW..... :o)
And here she WINS the race with a new PR and the next runner was WAY behind her!

Haley and Millika Best Friends for sure!!

Woods Cross Varsity Girls Team took FIRST today as a team with the score of 17 points. I do NOT think they have ever scored so good before. Millika took First Place out of all the 37 girls. She told me after that she did not really push herself, she could have run faster on the last mile or so. But she got another first place for Woods Cross and she had fun doing it.

I was again today told that she has SO MUCH talent in running and that we better get a shotgun because when she turns 16 years old we will have a lot of boys running after her :o(. So Lincoln better go get a shotgun and a lot of bullets. (Like I would want that in our home, NOT) But it was a cute thing to say to me, and YES Millika is just a beautiful, as she is smart and a great runner!

Good Job Today Mille. Next week is the Region Meet/Race and I just know you will do great there too.

Millika with WXHS Cross Country Teams at Herriman Invitational

OKAY... This week have been the toughest week race wise for the WXHS Cross Country Team. They did the really hard course on Wednesday at Muller Park Junior High School, which before have been the toughest course of the season but that is NOT the case any longer. Today they ran on the toughest course far harder than this Wednesday.

They went to the Herriman Invitational Cross Country Steeple Chase at Providence Hall Middle School3.1 mile (5 KM) weaving and hilly cross country course is one of a kind and was designed and created specifically for this Invitational. There are 5 Water Jumps and a few really BIG hills!

Let me show you what a real Cross Country Course looks like. I had not seen anything like it before in this the first season of Millika's running life! Millika was running on our Varsity Team and there were 9 teams of 6-7 girls from each school, so 59 girls in this race.

Our Girls Varsity Team getting ready for the race and as always they are starting with a prayer!

Here they go, our Team is in the middle of the picture!

This is the beginning of the race. Millika is keeping up with the front runners.

This is the biggest hill of the course! I am standing half way up it and it is a monster! This hill is about 2,5 miles into the race so the runners are already a bit worn out!

Millika is taking one LONG look at the Monster Hill and then she is going for it HEAD on and strong!

Look at that face! She is not giving up! She will make it to the top running!

And here Mille passes runner number 2!

Here Mille is at the top of the hill! McKay is cheering her on and so is Spencer! Mille is in the lead.

At the Finish line her Team Mates from Woods Cross High School cheer her on!

McKay is supporting her. She did it but she is beat and can hardly stand needless to say walk.

McKay, Grandpa, Grandma, Mille, Dad and Mom, part of her Cheer Team :o)

Top 7 girls in the Race got a GOLD medal. They are the Team A Varsity girls. These girls are from many different High Schools. The BEST from their schools in this race today!

In the Team competition our Varsity girls took 2 place! Way to go girls!

And here she is with her Daddy!! Nobody gives a better HUG than him at end end of a hard race. That is Mille's own words :o)

Overall Millika came in as number 4 out of 59 girls. She ran the course in 21 min 8 sec. She was the first girl from our school to cross the finish line. She ran up that HUGE Monster hill which she told me after was the reason she did not take 2nd place. When she got to the top of that hill she could NOT fell her legs and that is where 2 runners passed her. She was okay with taking 4th place but she was mad at herself for have 2 runners pass her right before the end of the race when she had second place within reach! We think she did great today and we are proud of her efforts!! Keep up the great job Girl! We love you!

Millika with WXHS Cross Country Teams at Muller Park Junior High School

Today Millika ran the toughest race of the season meaning it was the hardest course because of how difficult it is. It has LOTS of hills and it is 2.8 miles (4.5 KM). There were 3 High School there today Bountiful, East and Woods Cross and about 40+ girls ran the race.

Millika and 3 other Varsity girls were told to stick together for the first 1.5 miles and just keep a slower pace. This was because they have an important race on Saturday and because the course was so hard.  The Coaches did not want the runners to burn out or feel down.

Lets just say this was a hard thing for Millika to do, because when she races she is in her own little bobble and just want to run HER race. But she did it and it was a good lesson for her to learn.

Look at this view! The Bountiful Temple in the background. It was a great day for a race!

Here are all the girls ready to go. And the race is on!!

Millika was told to take it slower and stay with the other girls for the first 1.5 miles! When they got to the point where they could go on their own the 2 other girls told Millika this " Just go win your race Mil, you are free to take off" And she did :o)

Millika is in the background and here she lapses the girl in the front of the picture. It means she is one full lap ahead for that girl.

And here Millika comes in as # 1 :o) She owned the race and she did it with grace.

She ran the 2.8 miles (4.5 KM) in 18 Min 42 Sec. it was not a personal best but remember she was told to hold back for the first 1.5 miles. Also she came to a dead stop more than once because she did not know what way to run and of course that slowed her down too.  It was the toughest course of the season and she still pulled it off. WOW.... girl you are AMAZING!!!

All the coaches talked to me after and they all said that Millika is a fantastic runner and has so much talent. One of them said this " it is like she has a switch and when she turns it on there is NOTHING that can stop her from just going out there and doing her BEST" Yep... that is our Mille :o)

Millika with WXHS Cross Country Teams at Murray Invitational 2011

Millika ran her second race of this week and today was one of the biggest meets/races of the season. There were 38 High Schools and of course a LOT of runners.

Millika was running on the 7 Girl Varsity Team and there were 270 girls running in her race and 38 teams . On the team only the first 5 runners count towards the team score but the last of runners can still help the team get a better score by beating other teams runners. It is kind a little complicated the scoring system but we are all learn this runners thing ;o)

The race was 3,1 miles (5 KM) and it was mostly on grass with quite a few hills. Last year the best Woods Cross girl runner came in as spot number 125 out of 289, will we do better this year? We shall see.....

40+ Varsity Girls High School Teams, 280+ Girls running. You have to watch out and keep going!

Ready, Set, Go..... Waiting for the Gun shot. Millika is focused and so ready!!

Look at this mass, can you even find Mille, she is so little but VERY fast!

Here she is about 1/4 mile away from the finish line!

Her famous sprint!! Look at that intense face!

Millika and 4 of her friends and Team Mates. They did good today!

Millika came in as number 39 out of 270 runners. She ran the 3.1 miles (5KM) in 19 min 56 sec (her personal best for now) She came in as girl number 1 for Woods Cross High School and she felt great about her race today.  Our Varsity Girls team took 11th out of the 38 teams. So all in all the Woods Cross Girls did a lot better than last year. All of them came in placed better and overall the team placed a lot better. Way to go girls, you are a great team.

Millika at Cross Country Davis District Meet at Layton City Park

Millika has to meets/races this week and today was probably one of the hardest races of the season. Today all the 8 schools from the District were competing against each other. I would guess there to be at least 80+ girls running.

In the race today there was the State Champion from last year season. She is from Davis High School and Davis High has an unbelievable good team. Davis High School is a 5A school this means they have more students than Woods Cross High School and that way a bigger chance of getting more talent in for example sports. Davis High has for the last MANY years at every meet they are in taken what is called in Cross Country "a PERFECT" score. This means that they have taken the TOP 5 places/winners in the races. or like this the PERFECT score for a Cross Country team is 15 (1+2+3+4+5 = 15) Taking place 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 :o)

All this said about Davis High do you think they were able to keep that record in the race today?  Well lets just say they do NOT have a Millika Holbrook on their team :o)

Most of our Cross Country girls from the team this year before the race. They got the NEW uniforms on and they fit our school colors so much better! LOVE it!!

There is no better way than starting the race with a prayer. Millika and Haley are saying a prayer together after they finished it with the team. You can not have too much help from up above :o)

All the teams ready to start the race.

Still waiting for the start. Are we getting a little nervous yet :o) ?

The gun is ready to be shot and the girls are ready to take off... Mille is focused!

One of Mille's Coaches are here telling her to stick with the lead group! You can do it girl!!

Look at that face, could you be more intense and focused! She wants it bad!

Here she finishes as number 4. GOOD job Mille.

So back to the story about Davis High School. They might have had a PERFECT record for years in the Cross Country High School World but NOT anymore because that was before Millika Holbrook joined it :o)

Millika took 4th in the Davis District and she took first out of the Woods Cross girls. She broke Davis High's winning TOP 5 for years. She ran the 2.75 miles (4.4 KM) in 17 min 56 sec and she was the YOUNGEST runner by far in the race. You did great girl, keep up the good work!

Our Varsity Girl's Team took 2nd place in the total team score and our Varsity  Boys' Team took 4th place in the District. Way to go both teams!! You did awesome!

Short video Clip on Millika's movie page. And who is that Mom cheering so LOUD the whole time :o)

Millika was chosen for "Athlete of the week" at Woods Cross High School

I just found out that Millika was chosen for "Athlete of the week" at Woods Cross High School . It was the first week that they did it this year and they picked her a Freshman that is not really going to the school yet. How fun is that :o)

Lincoln and I  talked to the Principal from Woods Cross High School at the meet on Wednesday and when he found out we were Millika's parents he told us this. " I have not met her face to face yet but I have heard a LOT about her."  I said back to him "I hope it is all good :o)" And he said. " I have heard that she is a STAR runner." WOW... what a compliment and it is true too.

Do you think this is why she was chosen as the FIRST athlete of the week? She can be pretty silly at times even though she also can be VERY focused on the things she wants.  I think that is why she was picked :o)! You are a fighter girl!!!

Millika at Cross Country Quad Meet at Sugarhouse Park

Millika was in yet another Cross Country meet/race today and it was the first one Lincoln and I went to see. Since it was my birthday I could not think of a better way of spending it than cheering on one of our kids.

It was a Quad Meet which means there were 4 High School teams with around 60+ girls or so total. The race was 2.9 miles (4.65 KM) and it was on grass and up and down hills. It was at the Sugarhouse Park close to Salt Lake City and it is where the State Championship for Cross Country will be held this year.

Millika had been a little sick so I "pumped" her with Herbs (urte-pensil) just so she would at least not get any worse. She told me this morning that she was going to take first place today. I thought yea right.... But of course I did not say that to her :o)

Well how do you think she did....? Let just say I got to eat my thoughts and YES.... she DID take FIRST place today out of ALL the girls! She ran the 2.9 Miles in 19 min 53 sec and that is a personal best for her for now.

Remember that the girls made a pact that they would place in the top five individually... ? Well they did it today Woods Cross Teams took 1, 2 and 4 Place for the Girls and the Boys took 1, 2 and 3. Way to go!!!

Close to the finish line, Coach Sam is cheering Mille on. Do you see any other girls behind her? Maybe way back by those cars you can faintly see runner # 2 which Millika beat by 25 Seconds. Millika, you are a beast.... Way to go GIRL!! You can do this thing!!!

Makenzie (16 years old) ran in 20 min 24 sec (4th), Millika (14 years old) ran in 19 min 54 Sec (1st), Taylor (15 years old) ran in 20 min 18 sec (2nd). ALL Woods Cross High School Cross Country Girls Team. Amazing Race today!! You did it girls!! Keep up the awesome PACE!!!!

Millika at Cross Country Pre-Region Meet/Race at Cottonwood Complex

Yesterday Millika ran yet another race with her Cross Country Team. This time it was a Pre-Region Meet at the Cottonwood Complex, this is where the Region Championships will also be this year!

They were running a 3 mile (4.8 KM) race this time and the route was up and down MANY hills. There were about 50+ girls running and all the girls ran in the same league this race - no Varsity or Junior Varsity.

Millika ran the 3 miles in 21 min 22 Sec. She took 1st place out of the Woods Cross Girls and she placed 3rd overall in the girls race :o) And she was only 20 steps behind the girl that took 2nd place!

WOW.... their team already made their "pact" that they made on Saturday because Millika placed in the TOP 3 individual time !!! Unbelievable!!!

This girl is going to make it FAR in running if she keeps this up. She took 3rd place out of 50+ High School girls where many of them are 3 years older than her! WAY TO GO MILLE ;o)!!
