Region tournament in Debate 2013

This year McKay took part in 2 different debate categories at the Region Tournament. That is a lot in that kind of a bigger setting but guess what he did AWESOME!!

McKay took 1st in Public Forum and 3rd in Impromptu at Region. He also qualified in both events for State. He is just a wonderful debater and Mrs. Gregg told him, he is the BEST debater Woods Cross High School has ever had and she has been their coach for the Debate team for the last 17 years.

McKay won the State Martin Luther King Jr. Essay contest for all the High Schools in Utah

He wrote an essay based on a quote from Martin Luther King Jr. and of all the High School Students that entered in Utah he won the Grand Price. It was $100 check and a $300 Youth Leadership Camp this summer.  There were a total of 645 essays so not a small task to beat them all! Fun to see him excel in different parts of life!

 What a great thing to do and he wrote the essay in 15 min :o)

Mckay was going solo in this debate tournament!

Top 10 debaters from each school could go to this tournament and McKay was one of them from Woods Cross High School. You had to take first place in all of your 3 different debate events which McKay did. And only the top 10 debaters got an award. McKay took 3rd overall and had a blast debating solo at this tournament.
