Cross Country State Championship 2013

505 Varsity Girl runners from ALL Utah's High Schools ran today at the State Cross Country Championship. Millika's time placed her in 10th place over all. But she only raced against the 123 Varsity girls in the 4A School District . She ran the 3 mile course in 18 min 18 sec which took 1 min+ off her time from last year's race. That time gave her 4th place in the 4A State Cross Country Championship.

123 Varsity Girls running the 3 mile course.

Right before the 1 mile mark and before the biggest hill.

 AND she passed her :o)

In 3rd place from about the 2 mile mark. Looking great!

She got passed on the finish line. TOO BAD but she ran an AWESOME race.

4th in State not bad at all. She is a trooper this one!

505 Varsity girls and Millika place 10th OVER ALL ;o)

Grandpa, Grandma, Mille and Mika :o)

Coach Sam and Millika. Together they have made some pretty AMAZING thing happen on the Cross Country Course!!

Way to go Millika. It has been an AWESOME Cross Country Season. Looking forward to Track.

3 DAYS - 3 DATES - 3 DIFFERENT BOYS!!

Yes.... you did read right. It was 3 days, 3 dates and 3 different boys and then Millika. We are not used to much dating since both Mika and McKay have not done much. BUT... here we go with Millika which we already knew would be a dating machine.

Here we go.........

Date # ONE - Thursday night with Nicholas Curtis.

Millika's friend group when down to American Fork and did some Jeep and paintball riding in a Haunted place or something. I suggested that she should ask Garret to go but she said NO... So I thought well what about Nicholas and she was all over that. So I called Maj-Britt and asked if he had the night off and she said he was free! Millika then texted him and he of course said yes. They had an awesome time together and she came home in a great mood. Nick even texted her that night to say THANKS for the date and then next day too. Well let's just say he is a sweet friend and wonderful young man :o)

It was a truck like this the rode in with paint guns and it all :o)

 Nicholas and Millika!!

Date # TWO with Garret Grant - Friday night

YES, this is true too. Garret asked her on a date and he came and picked her up at 6 PM. They were suppose to go on a small hike and then have subway sandwiches but the couple they doubled with were so late that instead Millika and Garret went out and got pumpkins. They then went to Garret's house and ate the food, carved pumpkins were each couple had to do each a 1/2 of it. They had rented a scary movie but it was lame so they watched some Hercules too. She had stars in her eyes when she came home but who wouldn't after spending ALMOST 6 hours in the companionship of Garret Grant :o) Garret also did text her that night THANKS for the date and he also texted her on Saturday during the day and Sunday too so he is a great friend too :o)

 Millika and Garret :o)

 Garret's side of the pumpkin.

 Millika's side of the pumpkin!!

AND Date # 3 with Chris Harden Saturday Night.

Yes... Chris was Saturday night and they went Ice-skating and had a blast. I really like Chris he is such a great guy and very smart. But they are just friends and that works great too.

Millika and Chris, great friends!

So what do you think of that, 3 days, 3 guys and 3 dates. I am thinking that it will not be much longer before she gets that first kiss and I told her you better make it a good one with an awesome guy because you will always remember it. Boy.... they grow up so fast and now she is 16 and going on 30 :o)

Millika is working for the Ballard family and is LOVING her job. Melissa is so sweet with her and Millika is learning many new and fun things. She get to drive the kids to and from activities in their NICE big car/SUV. She cooks dinner, wraps gifts, do scrapbook stuff and many other things.

This week she had a chance to go with their family into the Joseph Smith Memorial Building in Salt Lake City to a reception for Elder Ballard's secretary that was retiring. Of course Melissa said MANY sweet things to Elder Ballard about Millika and it is not every day you get to met and visit with one of the 12 Apostles of our church. This young lady gets to meet people and do many fun things!!

Elder Ballard and Millika such a tender and sweet picture :o)

University of Utah Chamber Choir's first concert Fall 2013.

On this Friday night we went to Mika's first concert with the U of U Chamber Choir and it was the MOST beautiful concert I have heard in a long time.

Mika had 2 solo's and she sounded like an angel. It was AWESOME to hear and see her preform and such a trill to be part of it and even better that we can call her ours :o) we are so blessed to be her parents and to get to participate in such get music adventures!!

She did not just sound like an angel she looked like one too :o)

Here is a link to one of the solos:

Region Championship at Cottenwood 2013

Millika had one of the most important races today it was  the Region Championship and boy did we miss McKaythere! I remembered back to last year when he and Kyle were both there seeing the race right before Kyle left on his mission. It was a little different this year but guess who came and were Millika's good luck charm instead of McKay ??? Garret, yep you read it right :o) Can you believe that?

He came and saw her race, he even cheered for her even-though he said he would just be her good luck charm and not cheer. He stayed to see the varsity boys run, also saw the awards and then even drove her home. THAT is a good luck charm for sure :o) He is a cute kid and he was so sweet with her. AND YES she did take FIRST of course ;o) and she ran in the time of 18 min 21 sec for the 3 mile course. She was ahead the whole race and ran the last 2 miles all by her self. That is one of the hardest ways to race because it is just you and the clock. So she did not run in under 18 minutes like I tough but she did pretty dang good :o)

It will be better at State where there will be girls to push her and drive her along the way. Sam (her coach) is thinking that she will take one of the top places at State so that is going to be fun to see.

Ready set go and they are off to a great start!!

Garret, Millika, Jon and Chris. Great friends!!!

Millika, Kim and Evangelina :o)

Region Champion and a great time of 18 min 21 seconds. Not bad at all!!

Region 6 Preview Meet for Cross Country 2013 Season

Millika is in this article too. Lots of great things are being said about her and her running right now. I know she will do great tomorrow at the Region meet. Good luck Mille :o)

This is in the article about Millika for Milesplit.ut:

Girls Preview- Well one thing is for sure, Millika Holbrook will be the one to beat in Region 6. Over 3 miles this season she holds the best time in the region by a long shot. 17:56 is her best for 3 miles this season, and closest to her is 18:40 from Megan Spehar of Bountiful. Spehar will be looking for a way to keep pace with Holbrook, as their teams will vie for a place at the state championship.

Click to see the whole story ;o)

Region 6 Preview

Here is a pictures for Region LAST year 2012 where she took 1st place and ran the 3 miles in 18 min 26 seconds. My guess is that she will run in 17 min 51 sec or at least under 18 min. Tomorrow we will know :o)

Confidence and challenge at region XC meets

And this is Millika in the local paper!! I am sure she will do great tomorrow at the Region meet!!

This is what it said:

On the Woods Cross High teams, Millika Holbrook is the top runner on the girls’ side. Though she was out for much of the summer with an injury, Wood said she’s had a great season.
“She’s a talented athlete, and she’s come on really strong as of late,” he said. “I think she’ll be one of the state winners.”

2013 NEBO XC Invite in Spanish Fork

Yesterday we went to the 2013 NEBO Cross Country Invite in Spanish Fork about 1 hour and 15 minutes away from home. It is one of the BIGGEST meets in Utah and some of the BEST of the BEST teams are there. Millika was the only girl runner from Woods Cross High School to compete in the race and then our Varsity Boy's team raced too.

There were 167 Varsity Girls runners in Millika's group and it was a super FAST flat 3 miles course with mud and rain. That was what Millika faced yesterday afternoon. She ran in 17 Min 56 Sec and got a new Personal Record on a 3 mile course by 30 seconds. She took 5th place and looked so STRONG. Her BEST race of the XC Season so far. She is SO ready for the Region and State Championships in a few weeks.

Look at those cave muscles. She is so FIT and ready to rock and roll for the end of this season.

Looking so strong and good. We stood on the bleachers and could she 85% of the course from there. It was both nerve racking and fun to see as much of the course but she raced AWESOME!

It is GREAT to see her name so close to the top these days. Let's hope she can keep it up for the State Championship :o)

5th place in a time of 17 minutes 56 seconds and breaking her own PR by 30 seconds. Not a bad day for this "little" racer :o) Looking forward to Region and State Championships with her.

Millika asked her friend Jon to the Sadies dance in the end of October.

Okay, we are not used to having a "kid" that is so INTO dances and going on dates etc. But we knew we were in for it with Millika. It is Girl's choice for the upcoming Sadies Dance and Millika was of course going to go. Here is how she asked and her answer back :o)

First she dropped of a cub of butter with Jon's name on it.

Then about 1 hour later she came back and dropped this poster and the popcorn off with her name hidden in it. Clever idea . Look at Lulu eying the popcorn :o) She is such a CUTE dog. We LOVE you Lulu!!!

Here is Jon's answer back. Great responds and keeping the theme going . They are going to have a FUN time at Sadies.

No more a Teen-ager, Mika turned 20 years old :o)

Yes, it is TRUE I am a Mother of a 20 year old. WOW... how time flies. I still remember so clearly when I saw her BEAUTIFUL face for the first time. She was so tiny and so perfect. And now 20 years has pasted and she is STILL BEAUTIFUL and still PERFECT :o)

A little tired but it was also VERY early for Mika to get up. 6:30 AM so Millika come be part of it :o)

We got her a locket so she can put a picture in it of McKay. It has footprints on the front and on the back it says "It was then that I carried you". Sweet saying and she loved it!!

AND she got a t-shirt that says Denmark Copenhagen Mission in honor of McKay and our sweet family in Denmark :o)

It was a great birthday and she is for sure a keeper even AFTER 20 LONG years. We LOVE you Mika!!!

Millika at Homecoming dance at Woods Cross High School.

After having raced in a HUGE Cross country meet in Idaho, we hurried home and Millika got ready for the Homecoming Dace at Woods Cross High School.

Millika and Caden ready for the dance.

What is that move with her foot :o) ?

 Haley and Millika, great friends!

4 runner friends have a party together!

What a group. They are all running together at the High School and now they are having fun together at the after school stuff. It is a wonderful group of "kids".

Millika had a great time even though it was really short because we can home so last from Idaho. But still a great time and lots of fun!!

Bob Firman Invitational in Boise Idaho

Woods Cross was once again going to the Bob Firman Invitational in Boise Idaho. It is one of the BIGGEST meets in the Western US and more than 3000 runners would be racing.

Millika was running in the Varsity 1 Division with 193 total girls running. The course has sand, dirt road, hill, flat and lots of other fun stuff and it a 5K. It is a very spectator friendly course and one of my favorites.

Millika took 2nd place this year and ran in 19 min 13 sec about 13 seconds faster than last year in the same race. A great race and a very fun time in Idaho.

She had a bad start and was 50th or so but moved all the way up to 2nd place by around the 1 mile mark.

Getting interviewed for a little fun video.

2nd out of 193 Varsity girls that ran in her division. Not bad at all and a fun race to watch!

Home Meet at Woods Cross High School with Highland and Clearfield High Schools.

Every year we have a home meet at Woods Cross and every year the coaches hols Millika back because we have a big meet later the same week. This was no different this year and still she pulled out a win. The course is 3.05 miles and she ran it in the slow pace of 20 min 40 sec. It was 14 sec better than last year but she will NEVER brake the school record for this course ;o)

She has time to smile and joke around with the spectators. She must not be running at full speed!

She was told she could run a little faster on the 2nd lap and she took off. She won the race easy and it looked like it was just a regular training run for her which it really was. NO race pace for her today but a win is a win ;o).

Davis District meet in Cross Country 2013

Millika raced today in the Davis District meet in Cross Country 2013. All the schools were there racing and 66 Varsity girls were racing. The course was 2.75 miles (4.4 KM) and it is ALL flat no hills at all. So if you are a good sprinter it is a great course for you.

Ready set go. 66 girls ready to run :o)

Millika ran the course in 17 min 1 sec and took 5th in the District this year. Not bad at all and she ran 26 seconds faster than in the same race last year! Good job Peeps you are having a wonderful season!

Millika raced today in the Murray Invitational. She was running with the Varsity Girls group. Here are some of the 280 girls running. It was a FUN day and a GREAT race for her!!

Daddy, Mille, Grandma and Grandpa. She does look a little tired.

14th and ran the 5 KM in 18 min 30 Sec. She took 48 seconds off from her time last year in the same race.

 Sweet Daddy HUG!!
