Who is going to Washington DC in July 2012?

McKay was chosen as one of the 4 "boys" from Woods Cross High School to go to Boys State at Weber State University on June 4th - 8th, 2012.

It is an honor to be chosen to go and only those students who illustrate leadership, character, scholarship, loyalty and service in their schools and community will be considered. So we were very proud of McKay and that he got the chance to go!!

This year there were 237 boys from ALL the High Schools in Utah that was chosen to go. Out of these "boys" there would be chosen 2 Senators and 2 Leaders to preside over Class of 2013. These 4 "boys" would also have a chance to go to Washington DC for 9 days and see how our country is run. It is an all expense trip paid for and an opportunity of a life time for a young man.

The program involves the study of American Government and government process. Students participate in mock trial and elections. Additionally, students participate in music, sports, and seminars with public officials.  Historically, ALUBS students experience discussion and learning with the Governor of Utah; Attorney General of Utah; the Office of the United States Attorney for Utah; US Congressmen; Federal and State Judges; Utah House and Senate Representatives; Political Party Leaders: Law Enforcement Personnel; Utah Media Personalities; Mayors and Prosecutors.

The Class of 2012 will get (3) semester credit hours in conjunction with Advanced Placement and Concurrent Enrollment credits; will be eligible to apply for special scholarship funding; will be nominated for recognition to Who’s Who Among American High School Students; will elect (2) ALUBS-Leaders to preside over the Class of 2013; will elect (2) ALUBS-Senators to represent Utah at Boys Nation in Washington DC; and those with interest will be able to participate in a special pre-law school advisory forum.

Well, lets just say McKay did pretty good :o) He was chosen to be the Lieutenant Governor of the Class of 2013 and one of his good friends Justin got to be the Governor. They won with almost all the votes only 30+ where given to the other team!  It looks like they will be going to Washington DC together with the 2 Senators for 9 days in July!! AND they will be back for "run" the Class of 2013 in June next year. He got MANY new friends and all the adults loved him. He also got a $2250 scholarship for when he goes to the university in a year, not bad at all.

What an honor to be chosen by his peers and fellow young men. WAY TO GO McKay we could not be more HAPPY for having such a great son!! We love you!! Go have a GREAT trip to DC!!! You totally ROCK!!! Debate is paying of BIG time!!!
